CO2 laser is an ablative laser that vaporises tissue with precision. It is used to remove small benign lesions such as seborrhoeic keratoses, milia and some moles, and in fractional mode to resurface acne scars, pores and texture. How does CO2 laser work?
The CO2 laser's wavelength is absorbed strongly by water, so it removes tissue very precisely with limited bleeding. Used as a focused beam, it can lift off small benign growths layer by layer.
In fractional mode, the beam is split into thousands of microscopic columns, leaving healthy skin between them. This speeds healing while stimulating collagen remodelling — the basis of CO2 resurfacing for scars and texture.

What can CO2 laser remove or improve?
Every lesion is examined by a physician before removal. Anything that looks unusual is not lasered; it is referred for proper assessment instead.

What happens on the day?
You meet a physician first, who examines each lesion or scar area and explains depth, downtime and expected healing. Numbing cream is applied, and sometimes local anaesthetic for individual lesions.

Recovery, sun protection and travel plans
After lesion removal, small scabs form and usually fall off in about 7–10 days; keep them moist with the recommended ointment and do not pick them. After fractional CO2, expect redness, swelling and fine crusting for about 5–7 days, with pinkness that can last a few weeks.
New skin is sensitive to sun, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a real risk — especially for darker skin types — so strict sun protection is needed for several weeks. If you are visiting Seoul, schedule CO2 early in your stay and allow at least a week before flying home or any important event.
CO2 laser is usually avoided during pregnancy, with active infection or cold sores, after recent tanning, within several months of isotretinoin, or with a tendency to keloid scarring. Your physician will check this at consultation.

Does CO2 laser hurt?
Numbing cream is applied beforehand, and local anaesthetic may be used for individual lesions. Most people feel heat and prickling that is manageable.
Can I fly after CO2 laser?
Yes, but plan for healing. We suggest having CO2 early in your stay and allowing at least a week before your flight, so scabs and crusting have settled and your physician can review healing.
Will the spot leave a mark?
Most heal to a faint pink mark that fades over weeks to months. Temporary darkening can occur, particularly in darker skin, which is why sun protection is essential.
Can any mole be removed with CO2 laser?
No — only lesions a physician judges to be benign. Anything with unusual features is not lasered and is referred for proper assessment instead.
